Education Program
Our education program provides global opportunity for learning in the pre-clinical and clinical neurosciences through in-person and online learning mechanisms. With accessibility always at the forefront of our programming, we’re able to serve multiple learning pathways with minimal barriers through our hands-on training courses, online lectures, reading materials, and our newest online learning platform - BSG Learn.

With accessibility always at the forefront of our programming, we’re able to serve multiple learning pathways with minimal barriers through our hands-on training courses, online lectures, reading materials, and our newest online learning platform - BSG Learn.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, our education program is focusing on continued expansion of in-person training camps and adding new courses to the BSG Learn catalog. BSG Learn is an essential tool for helping students all over the world access premium courses at their own pace. Additionally, BSG Learn allows for greater collaboration of educators from different organizations while also serving courses to individuals beyond the scope of medical students i.e. industry reps, undergraduate students, residents, nurses, patients etc. We’re excited about the launch of the new BSG Learn platform and the year ahead populating our catalog of courses with a diversity of learning opportunity.
Mentorship & Early Development Program
The Neurosurgery Education and Research Virtual Experience Group (aka “NERVE”) is the foundational component of the Mentorship & Early Development Program. NERVE is designed to help supplement medical school by providing a multi-institutional forum for shared objective mentorship with a particular focus on disadvantaged students.
The NERVE program focuses on five competency domains:
Research Skills and Scholarly Activity.
Clinical Knowledge.
Professional Development.
Technological Literacy and Resource Management.
Technical Skills.
To this end, in addition to twice-monthly sessions covering these domains, NERVE students also participate as members of one or more of our research teams.
Research Program
Our Research Program began as a skills development program to augment student’s external research experiences, but has since matured into a fully recognized team-based, clinical research program. Each research team focuses on a unique set of research priorities aimed at improving our knowledge of brain & spine health and disease.
Each team is led by a faculty member with a proven track record of commitment to student mentorship and engagement in academic scholarship. With the addition of the technology program fueling the research program with data assets and other necessary infrastructure, the independent research capabilities of our medical student researchers and our research teams continues to grow.
Technology Program
The Technology Program was founded early 2024 by two engineers with a vision to bring biomedical research out of the monolithic age through collaboration of technologists with researchers and clinicians. The program has since grown to five engineers on a mission to build technology that directly empowers education and research and ultimately leads to advancements in our ability to care for the human condition.
In the program’s short history it has already produced:
BSG Learn platform for global education.
Cloud infrastructure for storing, manipulating, and analyzing large-scale clinical research data.
Data cataloging to help researchers find data for their research projects.
Custom statistical analysis environments that leverage platform interconnectivity for generating results.
Project management systems.
Secured grant funding from Amazon Web Services to continue development of large-scale data systems and artificial intelligence tools for biomedical research.
Chair, Board of Directors
Professor of Clinical Neurological Surgery and
Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Cornell University
